An interactive music composition software program controlled by motion sensors for children with disabilities (patent is pending). Original concept and design by the late Paul Nash of the Manhattan New Music Project (MNMP). http://www.mnmp.org
The Music Cre8tor is a music composition interactive software program that allows the physically and cognitively challenged population to create new music by using motion sensors (currently controlled by Wii Remotes). Sensors are individually modified for each person so that even the slightest movement can be tracked and become a control for composing music electronically.
Up to four people can play together, each person making decisions about rhythm, melody, instrument choice, and even recording himself or herself.
Though this program is designed for all ages as well as a diverse population within special education, particular attention has been focused on children between the ages of 8 and 15. It has been tested for both middle school and high school ages, with great success. Students with limited mobility as well as students with complete mobility and limited cognitive capacity have experimented with a demo version of this system.
The Music Cre8tor was the brainstorm of the late Paul Nash, founder of the Manhattan New Music Project. After Paul Nash's passing, Jane Rigler has been the Technology Program Coordinator and designer for the Music Cre8tor working with the amazing software programmer Zachary Seldess. Harvestworks Studios in New York has been instrumental the support and manufacturing of the system. The Music Cre8tor was presented in the Spontaneous Music Festival, NIME 2007, traveled to Spain and was an integral part of MNMP's Interactive Music Festival in June 2009.
