Deep Listening® & the Integrated Sensory Experience

Jane was certified in 2016 as a Deep Listening® Facilitator, and since then has been offering workshops around the world for all people to experience communal creative listening and sound practices. She also works as a Faculty Affiliate at the Lyda Hill Institute for Human Resilience, where her Integrated Sensory Experience gives small groups, or individuals, tools to explore their bodies, the environment, and creativity in a playful, safe, and private practice. Both sessions provide opportunities for healing, balance, and restoration for the participants. These multi-sensorial activities are designed to playfully engage participants to orient to their surroundings, initiate regulation, and renew creative energy and well-being.

Based upon and expanding the Deep Listening practice, Jane tailors each Integrated Sensory Experience (ISE) to provide a toolset for participants to carry on and develop Deep Listening practices throughout their daily life.

Deep Listening (DL) was founded by the composer/performer/electronic musician Pauline Oliveros, her partner Ione (writer, therapist, dreamer), and Heloise Gold (dancer, Tai Chi master) in the 1990s and continues to evolve. DL encompasses non-denominational flexible experiences that promote expanding consciousness through multi-sensorial listening activities that are accessible and attuned to each person and group. Listening involves more than hearing with the ear, it’s an engagement of attention with the whole body, dreams, and imagination. Deep Listening is playful and contemplative, enlivening our present moment while asking us to recall or imagine, individually and collectively. Jane’s Integrated Sensory Experience (ISE) sessions, available here, build upon Deep Listening® practices through her ongoing research of well-being and resilience gained from trauma-informed expressive art practices. Jane guides and opens possibilities and potential for others through these creative methods. Her study of well-being as a new graduate student in the Master of Social Work program at UCCS, as well as through the Organic Intelligence© courses, and her work at the Lyda Hill Institute for Human Resilience, are providing Jane with the skillsets to offer ISE as a trauma-informed facilitator.

Integrated Sensory Experience

ISE sessions are offered through the Lyda Hill Institute for Human Resilience Milestones program, or as private, in-person, or remote (Zoom or equivalent) sessions.

Jane is available to offer these sessions at institutions, corporations, schools, festivals, art galleries, museums, parks, and other easy-access locations for all people, especially those who are least reachable.

Pauline oliveros’ 80th birthday

As part of Pauline Oliveros’ 80th birthday celebration, Jane was invited to compose a sonic meditation (text scores/prose guidelines). Her scores are archived on the Still Listening Oliveros website here.

sonic meditations

For Jane, Imaginary Meditations bring us to the source of sound (i.e. our imaginations). They are contemplative scores that guide the listener into their own inner sounds that can promote memory, communal dreaming, and creative sonic curiosity that can enhance one’s daily life experience. Listen to a recording of Jane’s facilitation with Cal State Monterrey music students performing Sonic Meditations below.
